Last week we work on floor exercises for lengthening and strengthening. We reviewed cha cha in vogue after going through the vogue number to remember the choreography. On Sunday the 24th we did a warm up for the legs and back. We did our releve exercise for the ankles adding the balance check while maintaining the releve position. (Great exercise for balance and strengthening those ankles!!!) We did Capoeira basic movement for an earthy movement and then with partners incorporate one basic kick and one low movement. We worked on basic ballet exercises for the feet. Tendus & Battements. We ended the session talking about elements of movement. We did a simple exercise talking about shape and everyone had to guess the shapes each person created with their body/limbs.
There were 2 questions:
Degage? It means disengagement/separation. It is used to describe the foot in an open air position with an arched/pointed foot.
Battement: means beat. There are several battements. There could be a Tendu Battement (Tendu meaning to stretch).
We did Battement Tendu
and Battement Degage (Petite battement)
Click on the following link: http://www.abt.org/education/dictionary/terms/battement_degage.html
There was also a question about height from which part of the foot to the floor or relative to the other leg. Click on the following link to see a thread about this topic. This is for those deeply interested in knowing the specifics about ballet technique. As a mentioned in class…there are several schools of technique!
