CARMEN!

We watched excerpts from Carlos Saura’s Carmen. We enjoyed sangria, Champagne, popcorn, and some appetizers! Estrellas, I think we were inspired & it showed through your work afterwards. Thank you ladies for allowing me the time to organize some of the choreography & create some formation & timing for your movements. We have the following skeleton:
Two groups: Group A: 7 walks forward (start with weight on R) on 8,2,3 step side with right foot.

Next group B: 6 walks forward, hold 7 turn to right on 8

Next: petit battement sequence, spanish lines with flamenco taps, turn prep with left foot behind, turn prep with right foot behind, change weight to right foot, slow turn to the left, end in lunge position.

Eileen will walk out for opera entrance. 2 bars of rumba timing upstage, 1 bar for turn. Open fan. 2 bars of rumba walks forward downstage. on 3 hold and turn away, continue walks in circle formation until bar 5 turn towards center. On bar 7 turn to front, start spot turn sequence for 2 bars. end on bar 9, Quick, Quick with feet together.

For tomorrows section we will review the intro & continue from there until “march” section until the end. I will start class with port de bras/braceo warm up with wrist circles. Fan work. and then moves to rumba walks and walks with envelope action. Until tomorrow…I will see you estrellas tomorrow.

Class April 14th 2007

We received the red fans today & music! Yeah!

As a warmup, we reviewed 8 positions of the arms & learned basic positions of the head. We incorporated wrist circles within the warmup. Wrist circles will allow us to create beautiful floreo (finger & wrist movement) and to create smooth fan work.

We worked on rumba walks with shoulder roll on slow counts. Also envelope walks.

Other items we worked on: Petit battement sequence, turn to the left, and spanish lines with flamenco taps.
