Flamenco I

We began class with footwork exercise 1 in place and then in movement down the floor and backwards, keeping rhythm and poise.

We began exercise # 6:

Body positioned in a diagonal profile.

Foot 1 (”inside” foot) Toe heel ( Sing 1 E)

Foot 2 (”outside” foot) Double ( Sing &  ah)

Repeat above up to 7 E & ah.

On 8 stamp flat Foot 1

Kick out (ronde) foot 2,

Count & hook foot 2 behind foot 1,

Count ah place foot 1 next to foot 2,

Repeat above with Foot 2 towards next diagonal

We also worked on the Paso de Sevillana.

Introduction (armwork  9 counts)

1st paso is “irregular” move on count 2

4 regular pasos.

Silver Rumba

We started with the following warm up:

Closed basic movement to the R (4,1)

Check 2,3

Side 4,2, Back break 2,3

Rumba walks forward (Bars: 4,3, 2,3 & 4,4,2,3 & 4,5)

Check 2,3

Side 4,6

Spot Turn to Left 2,3

Side 4,7 Spot turn to Right 2,3

Basic 4,8, back break 2,3 side (4,1)

Repeat above but instead of the 2 bars of Rumba walks fowrward then rumba walks back. Spot turn will be to the Right first then to the Left.

Routine:

Closed basic

Crossover with men lead starting L to L hand hold (crossover to Left for men, to R for ladies)

Crossover to Right for men, L for ladies. Lead R to R hand hold

Spot turn to L for men, to R for ladies. Spot turn is slow over counts 2,3

Forward step both men and ladies 4,1

Men do Side together on counts 2,3 leading arm away from the partnership to turn lady.

Ladies do inside turn over counts 2,3

Both Men and ladies do side step on 4,1 and then slow solo spot turn to other side.

Finish with a regular crossover to Left for men to R for ladies. End with side step on 4,1 to closed basic and rotation to Left.

Paso Doble warm up & basic Routine

We started class with the following warmup and will continue with it in Silver:

For the individual to develop the character of the paso doble.

Start with Apel  with R foot (count 1)

3 walks forward  (RLR) (counts 2-4) Close L to R on 5 while arms move up as follows

Arms move up from low 1st to 5th-4 counts

Arms move down 8 counts

Repeat Apel with R foot same counts as above and instead of walks forward, walks back.

Arms up 4 counts (same as above)

Arms down 8 counts (same as above)

Apel R on 1, move R in a lunge position (R arm up above head, Left arm side and head & eyes looking to where we are moving from, in this case L)

Draw the Left foot in 4 counts, arms up 4 counts, 8 counts down

Apel L on 1, move L in a lunge position (L arm up above head, Right arm side and head & eyes looking to where we are moving from, in this case R)

Draw the R foot in 4 counts, arms up 4 counts, 8 counts down

Apel R foot move Left foot diagonally forward (Flat R,ball L, replace weight to R  similar to botofogo but no hips!) 4 counts

Repeat to the Right corner with Left foot starting- 4 counts

Repeat above 2 steps

Step forward with Right foot, close L to R with Left shoulder facing front to begin Sevillanas movement.  (previous class)

Basic Routine
Attack (Deplacement with Apel) 4 steps

Chasse to R (4 steps)

Promenade Link (4 steps)

Sur place (4 steps)

Separation (8 steps with repeat = 16 steps)

Total: 32 steps

Flamenco I

We started with wrist work in 2 directions: 2 rotations each direction

Arms in 1st, 2nd, 5th with wrists

Footwork Exercise 1,

Exercise 4

(ball heel-foot 1, double-foot 2 consecutive. On count 8-Flat Foot 1, ronde/kick out foot 2 and hook behind foot 1, ball of foot 1 closes to foot 2, repeat all with foot 2

Sevillanas Paso & Grapevine, both are 6 count steps

Bronze Paso Doble and Silver Rumba

Todays classes Included:
Bronze Paso

Character of the dance, posture alignment, walks forward, head position changes

First Position arms and opposition of arms and lower body with walks forward

The Apel (Llamada), Spanish press and release (dissolve)

Warm up individual movement: Start Left side facing audience:

Bring the space in and press out (Rock step with Left foot towards Right corner)

Counts 1 & 2, Collect 3, hold 4

Rock step to Left corner with Right foot on counts 1 & 2, Collect 3, hold 4

Next week: Spanish turn (”wheel”)

Silver Rumba:

Included partnering with therabands finding those lats and making them work.

New Yorkers for lead in R to R hand hold for men and L to L

Homework, Spot turn with firt position arms and second position arms

Next week start with Rumba walks forward, back, cucarachas, Spot turn for men and women with inside turn for lady.
